DAVIS LUMBER
1963-1990

For 27 years, Jon was president of Davis Lumber with corporate headquarters in Hutchinson, Kansas.

From 1963 to 1990, Davis operated several locations which included the following: truss and panel manufacturing plant shipping into 16 states; builders' showroom; contractor distribution yard; and a retail location.

He was also co-owner of three separate businesses: a home building company; a remodeling company and a modular housing manufacturing company.

In 1990 Jon successfully sold his business to Wichita, Kansas based Star Lumber, a family-owned building materials company with multiple locations.
STAR LUMBER
1990-2006

Jon was a senior executive with Star Lumber. For the last 12 years with Star, Jon was Senior VP/COO of Star's Building Material Division and a key member of their five man executive team.

Jon was very successful in expanding Star's market share throughout his career….often during sudden declines in housing permits during volatile times in the Wichita economy.

During Jon's career at Star, Star's annual revenue grew dramatically from $49 million to $126 million…including $80 million from Jon's division in 2007.

Now 70 years old, Star Lumber is ranked 56th in the U.S. by ProSales magazine in their annual report on the top 100 pro dealers.

MLA offers a variety of services and products to our members, as well as events throughout the year to provide educational and networking opportunities. MLA and their members are proud to be affiliated with the National Lumber & Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA), which gives MLA a connection to the industry at large and provides representation in Washington, D.C. on federal legislation and regulatory issues. American Association of Roundtables - https://aaroundtables.com/index.php

For the most part INDEPENDENT BUSINESS OWNERS are out there by themselves. They have no one to bounce ideas off, share their fears with or listen to their concerns. Jim Enter founded the American Association of Roundtables (AART) to fill that void. A typical roundtable group consists of 9 - 11 owners and top level managers from non-competing companies. They regard one another as trusted members and candidly discuss industry and individual issues and each roundtable group sets its own agenda to discuss topics vital to their businesses.

AART now provides numerous management roundtables facilitated by industry experts. When Jon retired in January 2007, he joined AART as an expert facilitator. He is currently conducting several roundtables for AART (management, millwork - door and window mills, and builders' showroom).

ProSales Magazine - http://www.prosalesmagazine.com

ProSales is the leading industry publication for building material dealers across the United States. Their weekly ProSales Online updates have timely articles about important breaking industry news. ProSales also conducts numerous dealer surveys that are very helpful to dealers in managing their businesses.

These weekly and monthly publications are full of stories that are important to building material dealers. Jon Davis, President of Davis Consulting, joined ProSales Editorial Board when he retired as Senior VP of Star Lumber in January 2007. Jon periodically writes articles for ProSales.
